DESCRIPTION: GIPC is a PDZ-domain-containing adapter protein. GIPC binds to proteins that have at their C-termini a conserved type I PDZ-binding site (S/T)-X-(V/A). GIPC’s PDZ domain can bind multiple members of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) family (e.g megalin), kinase receptors, G-protein coupled receptors and cell-surface adhesion proteins.. GIPC also binds directly to myosin-VI (make this myosin-VI be a link to the other antibody). GIPC is found on uncoated vesicles along with myosin-VI in all cell types examined. There is also evidence for a role for GIPC in trafficking of transmembrane proteins through the Golgi stacks. Other names for GIPC include: synectin, SEMCAP-1, GLUT1CBP.
